The historic village of Rhodes was established in 1891 and has remained as a Victorian relic of the past, almost lost in time. It is located in the magisterial district of Barkly East, an hour's drive or 60km from Barkly in the southernmost portion of the Drakensberg mountain range. Fine country cuisine and hospitality in the best traditions of the "Platteland" make Walkerbouts a veritable home-from-home. We also have self-catering accommodation in houses and cottages in the historic hamlet of Rhodes.
Rhodes is 40 minutes drive from the only operating ski resort in South Africa, the Tiffindell Ski Resort located on the slopes of Ben McDhui. At 3001,1m above sea-level, this is the highest peak in the Cape Province. the village is also close to the Naudesnek Pass which, at 2500m above sea-level, is the highest pass in South Africa. Naudesnek is also home to a species of hoverfly, Peloloma nigrescens, which has only ever been found in this area.
Fly fishing for wild rainbow trout and indigenous smallmouth yellowfish can be arranged through the Wild Trout Association on more than 200km of running water within an hour's drive of Rhodes.
A visit to Rhodes in general and Walkerbouts Inn in particular is a memorable experience indeed. Come and enjoy your home-from-home in the mountains! More importantly, we’re the only 365/365 catered venue in Rhodes!

The shoreline of this province extends from the Umtamvuna River in KwaZulu-Natal, to the Storms River mouth on the scenic Garden Route and borders of Lesotho. The Eastern Cape remains the home of the Xhosa-speaking people of South Africa. |
