History of the North-West Province:

The North West Province was originally inhabited by the Tswana people. These people spoke Tswana which is still a language that is still found in South Africa. This tribe was a cohesive tribe that included smaller tribes and people from different regions. Even people from the Kalahari joined the Tswana people in the North West Region.

The North West Province is filled with wonderful cultures and historical findings. The North West province is also home to the ‘mampoer’ drink, which is a specially made alcoholic drink that is made from peaches.

The North West Province is home to the Taung Skull discovery. In 1942, Dr Raymond Dart discovered the human remains in the Buxton limestone quarry. This proved that man did some from the African Continent. The area was mined until the discovery of the skull. It is now an important scientific research site and a heritage area.

The North West Province is home to the ‘Land of ancient Meteorites’. This is an area where it is believed that a meteorite is said to have hit the earth ages ago, which has shaped the area and the surrondings.
