Let's explore Namibia!
Namibia offers a unique wilderness experience in Southern Africa and is a country of spectacular contrasts, sea, desserts, sand dunes, mountains, rivers and exceptional wild life viewing.
Namibia is a peaceful country which is economically prosperous as a result of its productive mining, fishing and tourism industries. Essentially a desert country Namibia offers contrasting landscapes – the desolate Namib Desert is said to be the oldest in the world with its high dunes and awe inspiring scenes of desolation. The Central plateau with its thorn bush savannah and rugged mountains rising abruptly from the plains gives way to the majestic Fish river canyon in the South. In the North of the country, landscapes range from dense bush and open plains of the great Etosha Pan , to woodland savannah and lush vegetation. The unique Caprivi Strip with its contrasts of desert, rivers, islands and water ways is a combination of nature rarely seen, and is enhanced by a huge variety of wild animals and birds.

Etosha National Park (Big 5 Safari)
Etosha National Park (the 3rd largest National Park in Africa) owes its unique landscape to the Etosha Pan, a vast shallow depression of approximately 5000 square km. A Series of water holes along the Southern Edge of the Pan guarantee a rewarding, unique and often spectacular game viewing.
There are 114 mammal species and several are rare and endangered. Etosha’s elephants are the largest in Africa with blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Hyena, Lions, Cheetah, Leopard, Giraffe, Antelope species and approx. 340 bird species are all found in this area.
There are about 30 springs and water holes that provide excellent game viewing and photographic opportunities… Visitors should approach these waterholes slowly and with little noise so as not to disturb the game. |

Namib Nature Reserve
Red dunes, vast plains and rugged mountains make up the serene landscape between the inhospitable Namib Desert and the escarpment of the interior plateau. An ideal setting for nature lovers and photographers who dream of a unique landscape.
Sousussvlei:
The entrance gate to the most famous part of the Dune Namib is located at Sesriem. From there it is still another good hour’s drive to Sousussvlei. ‘Gathering place of water’ is the Nama name for this unique destination. Sousussvlei is totally dry amongst the high dunes of an enormous sand sea that was formed by water and is now a clay pan. The pan only fills up once within several years when there has been sufficient rain in the catchment area of the Tsauchab river. The famous Star Dunes of Soussesvlei tower around the depression, offering thousands of themes for photographers. The most beautiful photo opportunities are early in the morning and late in the afternoon when light and shadow create a more three-dimensional appearance to the landscape. Do not hesitate to explore and climb the ‘45’ or ‘Big Mama’ dune! Only from the top will you experience the sheer size of the dunes and your effort will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the sand sea. There are two other depressions ‘Dead Vlei’ – a dry pan with lumps of clay and dead camel thorn and the lesser-known, secluded ‘Nara Vlei’.
Sesriem Canyon:
The canyon is close to the park entrance of Soussesvlei. The Tsauchab river has dug a depression about 2 km long and up to 30m deep into the deposits of sand and pebbles which are about 15 million years old. The name ‘Ses Riem’ is derived from the English phrase ‘six thongs’ that had to be knotted together from an ox wagon team that was required to lower a bucket into the gorge to collect water.

Caprivi Strip – Namibia’s Wetland Paradise
The piercing drawn out scream sets your teeth on edge. Plaintively it resounds from the flood plains of the Chobe River. In the twilight of dusk, an African Fish Eagle swoops from a tree top, skims the water and with the swish of powerful wings and wriggling prey in his talons returns to his perch. Like no other animal the majestic bird with its striking cry represents this part of Africa where water is plentiful, vegetation diverse and animals abound. Parts of the Caprivi consist of huge areas which have been under protection for decades. Since (depending on water levels) they are not always accessible and as a result their wonderful fauna and flora have been well preserved.
The Caprivi in the North Eastern Namibia is a narrow strip of land 450km long and up to about 100km wide which was added to Namibia’s main body like an artificial limb. It was conceived on the drawing board in 1890 as a result of a swop agreement between Imperial Germany and Great Britain.
Caprivi Strip is the most diverse wilderness area in Namibia. The region borders on Angola and Zambia in the north, Botswana in the South and has its eastern tip on Zimbabwe. Four large rivers serve as boundaries and also traverse this strip of land. They are the Okavango, Chobe, Zambezi and the Kwando.
Herds of Buffalo, elephant and other Big 5 animals move freely across the borders of parks and countries. Occasionally you spot the rare Sitatunga and ever so often you come across a small African village and the people who inhabit this spectacular region.
